The South Portland Land Trust is a local volunteer organization committed to improving the quality of life in our city through conserving open space, expanding and linking trail networks, and fostering environmental awareness.

The recipient of the SPLT scholarship is selected based on his or her dedication to outdoor leadership, education, and conservation.

This year’s recipient was deeply influenced during the fall of her sophomore year, when she spent a semester in residence at the Coastal Studies for Girls Marine Science and Leadership School.

This experience she described as one of the highlights of her life. She continued to be involved with the school in the years that followed, winning an Alumni Gratitude Award for her efforts. Last summer she was selected to be part of the Maine Youth Wilderness Leadership Program which included research and backpacking in Baxter State Park.

For her dedication to outdoor leadership, education, and conservation, the South Portland Land Trust is pleased to award its inaugural scholarship to Phoebe Little.

The $500 scholarship award includes a copy of Jeff Ryan's new book Appalachian Odyssey, a South Portland trail map, and a membership with the South Portland Land Trust.
