South Portland Land Trust / Community Garden Collective Plant Sale

The South Portland Land Trust and the Community Garden Collective are holding their annual Plant and Bake Sale on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the American Legion Hall at 413 Broadway in South Portland.

This plant sale is popular among local gardeners, according to lead organizer, Helen Slocum.  “Every year our donors provide us with an amazing variety of annuals, perennials, vegetables, herbs, wildflowers, and groundcovers,” Slocum said.  They also offer a spread of baked goods and coffee.

The sale opens to South Portland Land Trust members at 8 a.m. and to the general public at 9 a.m.  Doors close promptly at 1 p.m.  For those who want to make sure they get the good stuff before it’s gone, the Land Trust allows gardeners to join or renew their membership on the day of the sale.  “The best stuff gets snatched up pretty early,” Slocum said.

The South Portland Land Trust and Community Garden Collective are seeking donations of plants and baked goods from individuals and businesses.  Potted plants will be accepted up until Friday, May 20th.  Baked goods donations can be brought to the American Legion Hall on Friday, May 20th, any time prior to 4 p.m., or on Saturday morning between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.

The Land Trust and Garden Collective are also looking for volunteers to assist in digging and potting donated plants, transporting and arranging plants the day before the sale, and helping customers on the sale date.
