Raise a Bed for the Community Garden Collective!

posted Sep 5, 2011, 5:19 PM by South Portland Land Trust
Date: Saturday, September 10 (rain date Sunday, September 11)
Time: 10 am - 4 pm

Location: Playing fields of the former Hamlin Elementary School, Sawyer Street and Ocean Avenue (Route 77), across from Ocean Avenue Market.

Project Description:

The South Portland Land Trust is pleased to act as fiscal sponsor for Community Garden Collective (CGC), a grassroots non-profit group whose mission is to build organic neighborhood community gardens.  With SPLT's sponsorship, CGC can receive tax-deductible contributions from private and business supporters, and to apply for grants for which non-profit status is required.

CGC's first community garden is on the playing fields of  the former Hamlin Elementary School.  On Saturday, September 10, CGC and volunteer helpers will be constructing raised beds for the garden and measuring and laying down cardboard pathways using permaculture methods.  The more volunteers, the faster this work will go - so bring a friend and help kick off this great community project.

CGC will provide lunch, so please RSVP so that they can prepare enough food for what is sure to be a hungry bunch of volunteers!

How to Volunteer:

If you would like to help out on this project, please email CGC at or call Crystal Goodrich at 671-6393.
